Events Calendar
The Friends of the Walled Lake Library help our library
with donations of time, energy, and money. The Friends sponsor book sales, raffles, and other
fundraising events. They
organize and assist with library programs, including children's
programs, and they purchase
much-needed equipment and materials for the library.
If you love your library, consider joining the Friends of
the Library.
Purpose
The
purpose of the Friends of the Walled Lake City Library is to
maintain an association of persons
interested
in books and libraries; to assist in promoting knowledge of and
participation in library
programs;
to aid in providing funds to meet special library needs; to
support and cooperate with the library
in developing library services and facilities for the community;
to stimulate gifts of books,
magazines,
desirable collections, endowments, and bequests; and to provide a
channel for individuals
and
organizations to express ideas and make suggestions for library
use and service as an
information
center.
How We Raise Funds
The
Friends of the Walled Lake City Library raise funds by selling
used books daily, seasonal book
bundles,
“Big Bag Used Book Sales” (Winter, Spring & Fall) and
membership dues. The
Friends of
the
Walled Lake City Library uses these funds to purchase needed
equipment and new books for
the
library.
Meetings
The
Friends of the Walled Lake City Library meet on the 2nd
Tuesday of each month at 1:00 P.M.
in the meeting room of the library.
The Annual Meeting is held on the 2nd Tuesday of
April. The officers
are elected to a two (2) year term.
At our August 14, 2007 meeting of the Friends of
the Walled Lake City Library, we honored four of our hard-working
members. Two are
founding members – Dorothy Wooton and Gwen Blum.
Dorothy, along with Norma Harden and Mary Zweber,
faithfully sort the donated books week after week.
These special women were given small gifts as tokens of our
gratitude. A small
party was held after the meeting to thank them and all the others
who work so hard at our book sales as well as other events
throughout the year. We
have a terrific bunch of volunteers.
YOU are ALL appreciated!
Memberships
Friends of the Library memberships are always
available at the Library. Membership
entitles you to discounts on our Friends canvas book bags, a
coupon for $2 off any regular used-book purchase, and
“early-bird” admission to our “big bag” book sales.
Won't you please consider joining us, as either a
supporter or an active member?
Volunteer Opportunities
The
Friends of the Walled Lake City Library are looking for volunteers
to help restock the shelves of
the
Friends Corner every Saturday.
If you’re interested in helping set-up for or at the next
book
sale,
please leave a note at the library desk for the Friends group.
